Snowy Mountains tourism pledge a boost for accommodation

The Accommodation Association of Australia has welcomed the news of an election pledge from the Deputy Premier of NSW, Troy Grant MP, that will mean a significant boost to tourism in the Snowy Mountains, Queanbeyan and Monaro region.

Deputy Premier Troy Grant and Minister for Regional Tourism John Barilaro have today committed $12 million in funding to boost tourism and major events in the region if re-elected on March 28. The funding is estimated to deliver up to $23.5 million in visitor expenditure to local businesses in the region.

"The Ministers' recognition of Queanbeyan and the Snowy Mountains as an important tourism centre, is a promising start to attracting a funding increase and greater economic benefits for local accommodation operators in the region," said Accommodation Association CEO, Richard Munro.

"Demand drivers, such as festivals, conferences, eco-tourism, adventure tourism, and road cycling events, are critical in creating high yield for local accommodation operators and other businesses."

"The $12 million boost to tourism and major events in the Monaro region, should it eventuate, would be welcome news for accommodation operators."
